Data Privacy Director, Europe

About the role

Greystar is seeking a Data Privacy Director for Europe to lead its privacy and data‑protection strategy across the region. You will be responsible for both the strategic direction and the hands‑on implementation of GDPR and national data‑protection requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Define and oversee the European data‑protection strategy, ensuring compliance with GDPR principles such as lawfulness, fairness, transparency, purpose limitation, data minimisation, accuracy, storage limitation, integrity and confidentiality.
• Establish, maintain, and govern records of personal data processing activities, including data mapping, lawful bases, international transfers, retention periods and technical/organisational measures.
• Monitor compliance with GDPR and related EU data‑protection laws across all processing activities and evaluate the effectiveness of technical and organisational controls.
• Advise senior management on privacy obligations, privacy‑by‑design/default, lawful bases for processing and the use of personal data in new products, services and technologies.
• Lead data‑protection impact assessments for high‑risk processing operations, ensuring risks are identified, mitigated and documented.
• Provide guidance and coordinate response to any European data‑protection breach.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading data‑privacy programmes at a senior level, preferably within a multinational organisation.
• Deep knowledge of GDPR, EU member‑state data‑protection laws and regulatory expectations.
• Strong ability to translate legal requirements into practical business processes.
• Excellent communication skills for advising senior leadership and collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
