Data Protection Solicitor – Legal Director (Senior Associate)

About the role

This senior legal position offers the chance to lead high‑profile defamation, privacy and data‑protection matters for a top international law firm. You will join a Global Risks team based in Birmingham, working on complex cases that span strategic advice, litigation and reputation management.

Key responsibilities

• Provide counsel on defamation, misuse of private information, breach of confidence and harassment claims.
• Advise clients on GDPR compliance, data‑protection obligations and privacy‑impact assessments.
• Draft and negotiate contracts, policies and settlement agreements.
• Manage cases from initial strategy through to court proceedings, coordinating with specialist colleagues.
• Develop and maintain long‑term client relationships and contribute to business development.

Required profile

• Minimum of 5 years post‑qualification experience (PQE) in defamation, privacy or data‑protection law.
• Proven ability to handle a full caseload independently and deliver commercially‑sensitive advice.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with a track record of high‑quality client service.
• Willingness to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of GDPR and UK data‑protection legislation.
• Experience with defamation, reputation management and privacy litigation.
• Ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory frameworks.
