Data Science Lead (12 Month FTC)

About the role

Lead a high‑visibility data science function, shaping business decisions at the highest level. You will manage a small, impactful team while remaining hands‑on with forecasting, machine learning and AI initiatives using Databricks, Python and modern analytics tools. This 12‑month fixed‑term contract offers a strong salary, benefits and the possibility of extension.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Data Scientists and Analysts, delivering analytics, forecasting and machine‑learning projects.
• Set priorities, coach team members and ensure high‑quality delivery across multiple workstreams.
• Collaborate with commercial teams, senior leaders and executives to translate business challenges into data‑driven solutions.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences and influence decision‑making.
• Identify and implement advanced analytics, forecasting, machine‑learning and AI opportunities to improve performance.
• Partner with Data Engineering and BI teams to build scalable, embedded solutions that deliver measurable value.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a Data Science Lead or senior data‑science role.
• Strong commercial track record delivering data‑science solutions that drive measurable business outcomes.
• Excellent Python and SQL skills.
• Extensive experience working with Databricks.
• Proven ability to develop forecasting models and advanced analytics solutions.
• Hands‑on experience with machine‑learning techniques and AI‑powered solutions.
• Prior line‑management, mentoring or team‑leadership experience.
• Ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
