Design Manager

About the role

Costain, in partnership with Thames Water, is seeking a Design Manager to join its AMP8 delivery team. You will be responsible for leading the design and engineering aspects of water and wastewater projects across the Thames Valley and Thames South regions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engineering solutions from initial need definition through optioneering, detailed design and construction support.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of design engineers to develop technical solutions for wastewater projects.
• Ensure designs are delivered on time, within budget and comply with safety, sustainability and CDM regulations.
• Manage design budgets, monitor performance, forecast costs and control design changes.
• Collaborate with clients, construction teams and supply‑chain partners to promote buildability and efficiency.
• Prepare and maintain the Design Management Plan and Project Execution Plan.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing design delivery on civil or water‑related projects.
• Accountability for design quality, safety, sustainability and cost efficiency.
• Ability to work within a project team and report to senior design leadership.

Required skills

• Design management and engineering design.
• Cost control and budgeting for design projects.
• Knowledge of CDM Regulations and sustainable design practices.
