Deskside Support Engineer – Edinburgh

About the role

The Deskside Support Engineer provides first‑ and second‑line technical assistance to end‑users across Edinburgh and other office locations. Working within the IT Infrastructure team, you will install, configure and maintain hardware and software, resolve complex issues and act as a trusted point of contact for all IT‑related queries.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver first‑ and second‑line support via help‑desk tickets, phone and on‑site walk‑ups.
• Install, configure and deploy end‑user devices and software in line with infrastructure standards.
• Troubleshoot and report faults on desktops, laptops and peripherals.
• Perform routine operational tasks (daily, weekly, monthly) and apply OS updates and patches.
• Execute IT administration duties such as user account creation, group changes, leaver processing and resource allocation.
• Maintain and update the team’s documentation library and enforce IT security policies.
• Provide out‑of‑hours cover for application deployments and upgrades on a rota basis.
• Act as on‑site liaison for third‑line support, performing tasks such as patching, power‑cycling or hardware replacement.
• Travel ad‑hoc to other office sites to deliver on‑site support.
• Share knowledge with colleagues and pursue continual technical development.

Required profile

• Strong PC support experience with a broad knowledge of Windows client operating systems.
• Proficiency with Office 365 applications and supporting third‑party desktop software.
• Ability to install and configure end‑user devices methodically and logically.
• Experience supporting Azure AD / Entra ID environments.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the capacity to work under pressure.
