Direct Category Manager

About the role

The Direct Category Manager will lead category strategy and supplier performance for designated spend areas within a global industrial and manufacturing organisation. You will work closely with the wider procurement team to ensure best‑in‑class sourcing, cost competitiveness and support for new product development and manufacturing site needs.

Key responsibilities

• Manage annual spend for assigned direct categories.
• Execute sourcing projects using approved supplier panels and commercial frameworks.
• Lead RFQs, negotiations and sourcing initiatives to deliver cost reductions and value‑engineering outcomes.
• Monitor and report on cost, delivery, quality and service KPIs for suppliers.
• Conduct supplier reviews, manage corrective action plans and support onboarding activities.
• Maintain accurate pricing, contracts and ERP data while ensuring compliance with sourcing governance.

Required profile

• Extensive procurement or sourcing experience in a manufacturing/engineering environment.
• Proven ability to run end‑to‑end sourcing projects and manage supplier performance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or a related discipline.
• Available to start on short notice and based in the UK within reasonable distance of a major city.

Required skills

What we offer

• Daily rate of £400‑£550, dependent on experience.
• Fixed‑term contract until the end of the year, with the possibility of extension.
• Fully remote working arrangement, with occasional travel to sites in the South of England.
