Director of Client Legal Services

About the role

The Scottish Legal Aid Board (SLAB) is seeking a Director of Client Legal Services to provide strategic leadership for three in‑house services that advise, assist and represent legal aid clients across Scotland. Reporting to the Executive Team, you will shape the delivery of high‑quality, client‑focused legal services in line with SLAB’s mission and the Scottish Government’s reform agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Public Defence Solicitors Office, Solicitor Contact Line and Civil Legal Assistance Office, ensuring cohesive strategy and operational alignment.
• Develop and implement business plans that support SLAB’s corporate objectives and performance framework.
• Collaborate with senior staff, external justice organisations and government bodies to influence policy and improve access to justice.
• Promote sharing of best practice across services while respecting their unique roles.
• Manage resources efficiently to maximise service impact.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior legal management within the public or not‑for‑profit sector.
• Proven ability to lead large multidisciplinary teams and drive strategic change.
• Strong understanding of legal aid systems, public policy and justice reform.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
