Director of Finance

About the role

The Director of Finance will lead both the Finance and IT teams, ensuring they are motivated, competent and aligned with the company’s strategic objectives. Reporting to the executive team, you will shape financial strategy, drive performance and safeguard compliance across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and develop the Finance and IT teams, including Health & Safety delegates.
• Develop and manage a financial strategy that supports business objectives.
• Lead annual budgeting, forecasting and the preparation of monthly management accounts.
• Produce weekly flash results and KPI reports for operational teams.
• Maintain and strengthen financial controls, processes and systems.
• Develop and lead the IT strategy to ensure robust systems and network.
• Manage cash‑flow forecasting, treasury activity and working capital optimisation.
• Oversee VAT, PAYE and statutory submissions to ensure full compliance.
• Present financial performance at board meetings and support strategic decision‑making.
• Collaborate with operations and commercial teams to improve margins and cost control.

Required profile

• Strong management accounting and cash‑flow forecasting experience.
• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Experience with multi‑entity or group structures in an SME (£10‑50 m turnover).
• Proven ability to lead and develop a small finance team.
• Confident dealing with banks, auditors and HMRC.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
