Distribution Controller

About the role

The Distribution Controller is accountable for overseeing distribution performance and activities, ensuring delivery challenges are overcome, customer requirements are met, and company resources are used optimally. This role combines strategic planning, process optimisation and cost management to drive efficient distribution operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead departmental Distribution Process Optimisation (DPO) implementation and related projects.
• Negotiate contractor costs to achieve the best economic price.
• Review and manage machine and manpower resources within the department.
• Develop and monitor the departmental annual budget (fixed and variable) and control costs throughout the year.
• Set, cascade and track team and individual goals aligned with the depot business plan.
• Plan peak sizing and critical period staffing, and manage customer and driver master data.
• Conduct bi‑annual customer service evaluations, analyse feedback and implement actions.
• Oversee full beer return process, safety monitoring and critical behaviour enforcement.
• Manage 3PL contractors, drive performance improvement and ensure supply‑chain transfer adherence.
• Review all Service Level Agreements (SLAs), attend SLA meetings and address non‑compliance.
• Lead weekly performance meetings, analyse trends and propose sustainable plans.
• Prepare and analyse contractor payments and ensure fleet utilisation is optimised.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing distribution, logistics or supply‑chain operations.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a focus on cost optimisation.
• Leadership skills to develop teams, set objectives and drive performance.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management capabilities.
• Ability to interpret and implement delivery schedules while ensuring product quality.
