Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) – Construction Site

About the role

Our client, a well‑established contractor with over 40 years of experience, is seeking an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) to provide on‑site ecological support for construction projects across the UK. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that all works comply with ecological legislation, planning conditions and project environmental requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct ecological site inspections and deliver toolbox talks.
• Monitor construction activities to verify compliance with ecological constraints.
• Advise site teams on protected species, habitats and appropriate mitigation measures.
• Provide ecological supervision during sensitive works and record observations.
• Produce concise site reports and support environmental managers in resolving ecological issues.

Required profile

• Previous experience as an Ecological Clerk of Works.
• Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and protected‑species mitigation.
• Proven ability to give ecological advice within active construction environments.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.
• Membership of CIEEM and protected‑species survey licences are desirable but not essential.
