Ecologist (Nesting Bird Checks)

About the role

We are looking for an Ecologist to support a major highways infrastructure project by carrying out nesting bird checks and surveys. You will work on‑site to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and best‑practice guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑construction nesting bird surveys and identify active nests.
• Perform habitat and vegetation assessments.
• Provide ecological advice to site teams and contractors.
• Liaise with project stakeholders to align works with ecological constraints.
• Collect accurate data, produce reports and communicate mitigation measures.

Required profile

• CSCS Card and Highways Passport.
• Experience undertaking nesting bird surveys and checks.
• Good knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, especially for protected species.
• Ability to identify common UK bird species and recognise breeding behaviours.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
