Electrical Design Engineer

About the role

If you're an Electrical Design Engineer who enjoys seeing ideas become reality, join a talented engineering team designing bespoke automation systems for leading sectors such as medical devices, aerospace, automotive and advanced manufacturing. Based in Plymouth, you will work on unique projects where every solution is custom‑made and your contribution will be visible from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with customers and sales to capture project requirements.
• Develop electrical system architecture and control designs for bespoke machinery.
• Specify industrial control components – PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, robots, VSDs and related hardware.
• Produce electrical schematics, wiring schedules and full technical documentation.
• Create parts lists, safety specifications, risk assessments and CE documentation.
• Work closely with mechanical, software engineers and project managers to deliver integrated solutions.
• Support manufacturing during assembly and testing phases.
• Attend factory and site acceptance tests with customers.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing industrial electrical or control systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical and pneumatic design principles.
• Knowledge of UL508A industrial control panels.
• Familiarity with safety software such as Sistema or Pilz.
• Experience with EPLAN or comparable electrical design tools.
• Hands‑on knowledge of PLC and automation hardware from manufacturers like Siemens, Rockwell, Omron, Mitsubishi or B&R.
• Awareness of machinery safety standards (BS EN60204‑1, ISO 13849).
• Formal qualification in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Design.
