Electrician – Shipbuilding (Govan & Scotstoun)

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a qualified Electrician to join the electrical team working on Type 26 frigates at its shipyard in Glasgow (Govan and Scotstoun). The role involves installing and maintaining power and control systems on naval vessels, operating on a rotating shift pattern.

Key responsibilities

• Install a variety of cables (multi‑core, single‑core, coaxial) and electrical components such as junction boxes, fuse panels, consoles, transformers and switches.
• Terminate cables and mount electrical equipment to trade standards.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with shipbuilding teams to ensure timely completion of installations.
• Perform risk assessments and ensure compliance with PUWER, COSHH and other safety regulations.
• Apply tag‑out and proving‑dead procedures and conduct earthing of components.

Required profile

• Completed Modern Apprenticeship (SVQ Level 3) or equivalent trade qualification.
• Valid SJIB card.
• Experience in marine or large‑scale industrial electrical installations.
• Ability to work on shift patterns (days, nights, weekends) and attend a recruitment day in Glasgow.

Required skills
