Employment Solicitor – Education Sector

About the role

This position offers an experienced Employment Solicitor the chance to join a nationally recognised Education & Charities team within a leading law firm. You will advise a diverse portfolio of education providers on complex employment matters in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide commercial, practical advice to independent schools, academies, maintained schools, colleges and universities.
• Handle both contentious and non‑contentious matters, including disciplinary, grievance, safeguarding, senior appointments, exits, restructures and redundancies.
• Advise on employment aspects of academy conversions, mergers, governance changes and draft/review contracts, policies and staff handbooks.
• Work closely with headteachers, governors, bursars, COOs and senior leadership teams as an extension of their in‑house counsel.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years post‑qualification experience (PQE) in employment law.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver clear, commercially‑focused advice.
• Strong communication skills and a client‑focused mindset.
• Interest in the education sector and desire to develop specialist expertise.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of UK employment legislation.
• Experience with HR advisory, disciplinary and grievance procedures.
• Familiarity with employment issues specific to educational institutions.
