Engineering Director – Medical Technology

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Director to lead a multidisciplinary engineering function within a fast‑growing medical technology company in Cambridge. Reporting to the Founder, you will shape technical strategy, drive product delivery and foster a culture of innovation across embedded software, electronics, mechanical and systems engineering.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop teams in Embedded Software, Electronics, Mechanical, Systems and Test Engineering.
- Define and execute an engineering strategy aligned with business goals and product roadmap.
- Provide technical leadership across multiple concurrent development programmes from concept to manufacture.
- Ensure robust development processes, quality standards and best practices are applied.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Manufacturing, Regulatory and Commercial teams to guarantee successful product launches.
- Manage engineering budgets, resource planning and recruitment.
- Mentor engineering managers and create clear succession and career development plans.
- Represent the engineering function in customer engagements and with key stakeholders.
Required profile
- Degree in Engineering, Electronics, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in a technology or product development environment.
- Proven track record delivering complex electronic, embedded software or electromechanical products from concept to production.
- Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle management, project delivery and product development methodologies.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at executive level.
- Commercial awareness and ability to balance technical excellence, cost, quality and delivery objectives.
