Engineering Manager / Lead Developer (Hands-On)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager / Lead Developer who will both lead a high‑performing software engineering team and stay actively involved in hands‑on development. This player‑coach role combines people management with technical design, coding and delivery of modern Java‑based and JavaScript/TypeScript applications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and mentor a team of Software Engineers through regular one‑to‑ones and development planning.
• Remain hands‑on by contributing to design, coding, testing and problem‑solving.
• Provide technical direction across Java and modern JavaScript/TypeScript projects.
• Facilitate code reviews, solution design sessions and architectural discussions.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
• Promote engineering best practices such as clean code, automated testing, CI/CD and secure development.
• Identify technical risks, remove blockers and continuously improve engineering processes.
• Help build a collaborative, accountable and high‑performing engineering culture.

Required profile

• Strong commercial experience developing software with Java.
• Proficiency with modern JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• Previous experience as an Engineering Manager, Lead Developer, Technical Lead or Senior Engineer with leadership responsibilities.
• Willingness to stay technically hands‑on.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns and engineering principles.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
