Engineering Team Leader

About the role

We are seeking an Engineering Team Leader to oversee the maintenance and reliability of highly automated plant equipment in a fast‑moving food production environment. The role combines hands‑on multi‑skilled engineering with people leadership to minimise downtime and drive continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop a small engineering team to deliver safe and efficient plant operations.
• Plan, schedule and execute reactive and preventative maintenance on robots, conveyors, mincers, grinders and other critical machinery.
• Implement and monitor preventative maintenance programmes to improve overall equipment effectiveness.
• Ensure all engineering activities comply with health‑and‑safety regulations.
• Collaborate with production supervisors to resolve technical issues and optimise processes.
• Manage engineering budgets, spare‑part inventories and resource allocation.
• Prepare performance reports and present project progress to senior management.

Required profile

• Qualified Electrical or Mechanical Engineer (Apprenticeship, NVQ or equivalent).
• Proven experience in a manufacturing or FMCG setting, preferably food production.
• Strong fault‑finding ability across electrical and mechanical systems.
• Ability to work shift patterns, including occasional weekends.

• PLC interrogation and modification.
• Sensors installation and maintenance.
• Motor swapping and inverter drive servicing.
• 3‑phase power installation and maintenance.
• Bearings, pneumatics and conveyor repair.
• Fabrication and bracket construction.
• Robotics and automated equipment handling.

What we offer

• Competitive salary £50,000‑£56,000 per annum.
• Standard Monday‑Friday 8 am‑4 pm shift.
• Permanent full‑time contract.
