English Teacher – Secondary (SEMH)

About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic English Teacher to join a specialist secondary school in Enfield that supports students aged 11‑19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role is full‑time, long‑term and offers the chance to make a lasting impact in a nurturing, therapeutic environment.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated English lessons for Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Inspire students to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of learners with SEMH.
- Monitor progress and use assessment data to support pupil achievement.
- Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, resilience and engagement.
- Collaborate with teaching assistants and the wider school team to create a supportive learning environment.
- Promote high expectations and help students achieve academic and personal goals.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching English at secondary level.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Passion for supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning.
- Resilient, patient and committed to inclusive education.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
- Previous experience in an SEMH or SEND setting is desirable but not essential.
