Environmental and Regulatory Officer – Private Water Supplies

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Environmental and Regulatory Officer to join our Environmental Health team, focusing on private water supplies. You will help protect public health and the environment by ensuring compliance with water quality legislation across the district.

Key responsibilities

• Lead regulation and monitoring of private water supplies under the Private Water Supplies Regulations 2016 and the Water Industry Act 1991.
• Conduct inspections, investigations, sampling programmes and enforcement actions.
• Investigate complex environmental pollution issues and provide specialist regulatory advice.
• Represent the service at court proceedings, planning hearings and committee meetings.
• Collaborate with colleagues, stakeholders and customers to continuously improve services.

Required profile

• Qualification equivalent to a degree or at least 3 years relevant experience.
• Experience working in or with local government.
• Proven ability to work flexibly within a team and handle challenging situations calmly.
• Willingness to travel to Cirencester, Coleford or Witney as required.

Required skills

• Water quality sampling techniques.
• Environmental investigation methods.
