Facilities Manager – Grounds & Cleaning Operations

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to lead our grounds maintenance and cleaning teams across a large housing portfolio. This 6‑month contract offers the chance to drive service improvements, ensure health and safety compliance, and deliver exceptional customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and motivate Grounds Maintenance and Cleaning Team Leaders.
• Plan workloads, allocate resources and manage both planned and reactive services.
• Monitor operational performance, conduct inspections and uphold quality standards.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, CDM regulations and company policies.
• Manage risk assessments, safe systems of work, HAVS and WBV controls.
• Oversee vehicle, equipment, PPE and stock management.
• Manage contractor performance where required.
• Support service charge reviews and budget management.
• Produce operational reports using digital management systems.
• Conduct one‑to‑ones, probation reviews, return‑to‑work interviews and performance management.
• Drive continuous improvement, value for money and excellent customer service.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing facilities, grounds maintenance or cleaning services.
• Strong operational leadership and people‑management abilities.
• Experience overseeing contractors and service delivery.
• Excellent knowledge of health & safety legislation and operational compliance.
• Experience using digital management systems and producing operational reports.
• Strong organisational, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Required skills

• Full UK Driving Licence.
• IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
• Level 3 Trade Qualification, HNC or HND (or equivalent industry experience).
• Line‑management qualification (ILM Level 3 or equivalent).
