Family Care Solicitor – Child Care Specialist

About the role

The Legists is seeking an experienced Family Care Solicitor to join its expanding Child Care team in Devon. The role offers high‑quality public law children matters, hybrid working and a clear pathway for career progression.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a personal caseload of care proceedings from pre‑proceedings through to court hearings.
• Represent clients at PLO meetings, advocacy hearings and assist with Special Guardianship Orders.
• Provide clear, practical advice to parents, grandparents and other family members in sensitive situations.
• Prepare and submit applications, attend court and liaise with relevant authorities.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with at least 2 years PQE in public law children matters.
• Strong advocacy and communication abilities.
• Excellent organisational skills and a compassionate, client‑focused approach.
• Experience of Legal Aid work and membership of the Law Society Children Panel is advantageous.

Required skills

• Legal research and case management.
• Advocacy in court and at PLO meetings.
• Drafting of legal documents and applications.
