Family Care Solicitor – Public Law Children Specialist

About the role

The Legists is seeking a Family Care Solicitor to join its specialist Child Care team in Devon. This full‑time, hybrid position offers the chance to work on public law children matters, supporting vulnerable families through care proceedings, PLO meetings and Special Guardianship Orders.

Key responsibilities

• Manage an independent caseload of public law children matters.
• Advise and represent clients throughout care proceedings and at PLO meetings.
• Provide advocacy in court and support applications for Special Guardianship Orders.
• Deliver clear, practical legal advice to vulnerable clients.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the wider Family team and contribute to business development initiatives.

Required profile

• Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with approximately 2+ years PQE (other levels may be considered).
• Experience handling public law children matters.
• Strong advocacy and client‑care skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues in plain English.
• Excellent organisational and case‑management abilities.
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable clients and a collaborative approach.
