Family Court Adviser (Agency) – Coventry

About the role

We are seeking an Agency Family Court Adviser (FCA) to join the Work After First Hearing (WAFH) team at Cafcass in Coventry. The role is hybrid, with one day per week in the office and the remainder working from home, alongside visits to children, families and courts.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct assessments and engage directly with children to capture their views for the court.
• Prepare Section 7 reports in private law cases where the first hearing has not resulted in agreement.
• Represent children’s interests in public law cases, acting as an independent guardian.
• Provide oral evidence in court and produce high‑quality written reports.
• Collaborate with private and public law teams, using risk‑assessment and mediation skills.

Required profile

• Qualified social worker, registered with Social Work England.
• 2‑3 years post‑qualification experience in children and families social care.
• Recent experience of private and/or public law work.
• Confidence and experience in court settings.

Required skills

• Robust risk‑assessment capability.
• Effective mediation and negotiation.
• Strong written and oral communication for legal contexts.
