Family Solicitor – Head of Department

About the role

The Legists is seeking an experienced Family Solicitor to lead its Family Law department in West Sussex. This senior position offers the opportunity to manage a private, high‑value caseload while shaping the future of a respected, client‑focused practice.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a portfolio of privately funded family law matters, including divorce, financial remedy, cohabitation disputes, pre‑ and post‑nuptial agreements, and children law cases.
• Mentor and develop junior solicitors and legal executives within the team.
• Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with clients, providing exceptional client care.
• Take full ownership of files from inception to resolution, ensuring high‑quality outcomes.
• Contribute to the strategic growth and development of the department.

Required profile

• Minimum of five years post‑qualification experience (5+ PQE) in family law.
• Proven experience leading a team or department.
• Excellent communication, organisational and client‑relationship skills.
• Self‑motivated, collaborative and able to work independently.
