Field Interviewer (Part‑time) – Motherwell

About the role

We are looking for part‑time Field Interviewers to visit households in Motherwell and conduct face‑to‑face research interviews on topics such as health, housing and transport. You will use a tablet or laptop to guide conversations, capture responses and record data directly on the device.

Key responsibilities

• Knock on doors and arrange interviews with residents who have received a prior invitation letter.
• Conduct structured interviews, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of the information collected.
• Enter responses into the digital questionnaire using a tablet or laptop.
• Manage your own schedule, travel to interview locations and report any issues to the project team.
• Maintain professional conduct and adhere to NatCen’s research protocols.

Required profile

• Valid UK driving licence and sole use of a car.
• Class 1 business insurance for the vehicle.
• Right to work in the UK and willingness to complete a DBS check.
• Reliable home broadband and a laptop or tablet with a camera.
• At least 18 hours of availability per week, with flexibility for weekdays, evenings and weekends.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills.

Required skills

• Comfortable using a tablet or laptop with basic software applications.
• Ability to follow written interview scripts and record data accurately.

What we offer

• £20‑£30 per interview (typical rate).
• Admin fees and holiday pay (12.1%).
• Travel time paid at £4.68 per hour and mileage reimbursement at 36p per mile (up to 10,000 miles).
• £250 bonus after launch, with two further £250 bonuses at two‑month intervals.
• Average hourly rate of approximately £15.12, with higher rates for experienced interviewers.
