Finance Manager – Construction SME

About the role

We are looking for a Finance Manager to lead the finance function of a well‑established construction SME in Bristol. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will ensure accurate financial reporting, effective cash flow management and provide commercial insight to support business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Manage cash flow and short‑term forecasting.
• Oversee purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control activities.
• Process and review payroll information.
• Perform bank and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Handle CIS submissions and VAT returns.
• Monitor project costs and support profitability reporting.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Maintain accurate financial records and internal controls.
• Liaise with external accountants and auditors.
• Support operational managers with financial information and reporting.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and efficiencies.

Required profile

• Qualified by experience or AAT qualified.
• Previous experience as a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or Senior Bookkeeper.
• Experience in construction, engineering or a project‑led business is advantageous.
• Knowledge of CIS and VAT regulations.
• Strong understanding of management accounts and cash‑flow reporting.
• Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication skills and a practical, hands‑on approach.
