Finance Officer

About the role

Our client, located on the outskirts of Colchester, is looking for an experienced Finance Officer to join the team on a permanent basis. The role combines day‑to‑day financial operations with broader finance responsibilities, working closely with the Head of Finance to maintain strong controls and high‑quality reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices and prepare weekly payment schedules for approval.
• Raise customer invoices and manage utility and other recharges to tenants.
• Post bank, credit card and Revolut transactions in Sage and maintain accurate financial records.
• Process purchase requests and orders authorised by management.
• Support the Head of Finance with monthly payroll processing and provide cover when required.
• Complete balance‑sheet reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and assist with month‑end and year‑end close activities.
• Prepare audit working papers, supporting schedules and reconciliations for Board reporting.
• Assist with ad‑hoc financial analysis, reporting and respond to finance queries.

Required profile

• AAT qualified, or ACCA/CIMA part‑qualified/qualified by experience.
• Previous experience in a similar finance role within a finance environment.
• Proven experience using accounting software, preferably Sage.
• Experience processing purchase and sales ledger transactions and completing bank reconciliations.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills and ability to meet competing deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

What we offer

• Salary £35,000‑£37,000 depending on experience.
