Financial Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a fully qualified CIMA or ACCA Financial Accountant to join our Finance team in Bristol. This permanent position operates on a hybrid basis, supporting the Senior Finance Manager with accounting records, financial controls, and insightful analysis across our UK operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Senior Finance Manager in preparing monthly P&L, balance sheet, and variance reports for UK budget holders.
• Prepare VAT and other tax returns for the firm and its subsidiaries, providing expert VAT advice.
• Perform monthly balance‑sheet reconciliations of key accounts.
• Support the annual UK overhead budgeting process.
• Manage the recharge of international project matters and ensure audit and tax year‑end timetables are met.
• Handle PAYE settlement agreements and produce monthly P&L for the pension trustee company, including bookkeeping, VAT, and tax returns.
• Lead the year‑end audit for the pension trustee company and act as primary contact for external auditors.
• Provide back‑end support, administration, and troubleshooting for the Emburse Expenses platform.
• Identify and implement process improvements within the financial accounting remit.
• Offer ad‑hoc support to projects and initiatives as required.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (CIMA or ACCA) with strong technical accounting knowledge.
• Solid understanding of financial controls, monthly reporting, and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Experience preparing or reviewing VAT returns and handling related tax compliance.
• Previous involvement in year‑end audit processes.
• Tech‑savvy with confidence using various financial systems and advanced Excel.
