Financial Accountant & Payroll Manager (Temp to Perm)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant who will also manage payroll on a temporary‑to‑permanent basis. Based in Wirral, the position offers a hybrid working pattern after training (three days in the office, two days remote) and the chance to make a tangible impact on finance processes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the end‑to‑end payroll process, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely processing.
• Lead a project to review, streamline and improve payroll and pension processes.
• Oversee invoice finance and monitor cash flow.
• Prepare quarterly management accounts and monthly management information, including cash‑flow forecasts and P&L reports.
• Produce year‑end statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors.
• Record month‑end journals, accruals and pre‑payments.
• Perform balance‑sheet and bank reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns.
• Process supplier payments and manage daily cash receipts.
• Review supplier invoices before forwarding to the Accounts team.
• Resolve accounts receivable and payable queries and perform statement reconciliations.
• Support budgeting, financial planning and continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Proactive finance professional comfortable balancing operational duties with improvement projects.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
• Experience in both financial accounting and payroll management.
