Financial Controller – Global Retail Brand – London

About the role

This newly created Financial Controller position sits at the top of a large, well‑resourced finance team for a globally recognised retail brand. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will be the engine room of the function, ensuring accuracy, robust processes and clear ownership across the finance organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end financial control for the group, including month‑end and year‑end close, balance‑sheet integrity, statutory reporting and audit coordination.
• Own the Accounts Payable function – manage payment runs, invoice processing, banking controls and supplier master data at high volume.
• Oversee inventory and stock accounting for a significant global stock holding, ensuring accurate valuation, movement tracking and reconciliation.
• Provide day‑to‑day leadership for a large finance team, driving clarity of ownership, development and continuous improvement.
• Design, maintain and strengthen internal controls in line with audit requirements and best practice.
• Drive process improvement and systems optimisation, with a focus on the ongoing ERP programme.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Background in retail, consumer goods or global product brands with meaningful inventory exposure.
• Proven experience managing 10+ direct reports in‑house, demonstrating strong leadership and emotional intelligence.
• Experience in multi‑currency, multi‑entity environments.
• Process‑driven mindset with a track record of improving financial operations at scale.
