About the role
An experienced Financial Controller is needed to lead UK finance operations, own group consolidation for small US and New Zealand entities, and strengthen financial control, reporting quality, and cash discipline across the business.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense processing and management of the invoice finance facility.
- Own and continuously improve the month‑end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and clear accountability.
- Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, including commentary and variance analysis.
- Provide decision‑useful insights to senior leadership, linking financial performance to operational drivers.
- Maintain balance‑sheet schedules, reconciliations and resolve issues promptly.
- Prepare and post monthly work‑in‑progress (WIP) in line with agreed methodology.
- Own group consolidation across UK and international entities, including inter‑company and group reporting packs.
- Meet regulatory and statutory responsibilities such as VAT filings, year‑end accounts preparation and audit coordination.
- Support finance improvement projects, including redesigning forecasting models, streamlining processes and identifying automation opportunities.
- Partner with key stakeholders to improve collaboration, cost control and forecasting.
Required profile
- Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent) with 2–4 years post‑qualification experience; newly qualified considered if strong month‑end ownership and people‑leadership exposure.
- Experience in an organisation with fewer than 250 employees, preferably in professional services or project‑based business.
- Proactive problem‑solver comfortable working in detail and improving processes.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including revenue recognition and group consolidation.
- Collaborative, professional and flexible approach with ability to partner with non‑finance stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, able to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
