Financial Controller

About the role

We are seeking a confident, hands‑on Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function for a growing family‑owned construction business. Based in our Wimbledon office, you will support day‑to‑day finance operations while contributing to the company’s commercial strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of the day‑to‑day finance function across four entities.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and oversee accruals, pre‑payments and fixed assets.
• Lead cash‑management processes, including bank reconciliations and cash‑flow monitoring.
• Manage purchase and sales ledgers, payment schedules and supplier payments.
• Support payroll, pensions and VAT return preparation.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and wider financial planning.
• Produce ad‑hoc financial reports and analysis for senior stakeholders.
• Identify and implement improvements to finance processes, controls and efficiencies.
• Provide commercial insight to drive business growth.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar senior finance role.
• Proactive, highly organised with strong planning and delivery skills.
• Commercially minded with a positive, curious approach.
• High level of integrity and reliability.
• Full UK driving licence is advantageous.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Confidence using finance systems.
