Financial Controller – Real Estate (Hybrid, £80k)

About the role

We are partnering with a large international real estate and professional services organisation to hire a Financial Controller for their UK & Ireland finance function. Reporting to the Country Controller, you will own a significant balance‑sheet area within a complex, multi‑entity business and influence finance operations across the group.

Key responsibilities

• Take full ownership of a defined balance‑sheet area, ensuring accurate financial reporting and appropriate accounting treatment.
• Lead the SOX and internal‑controls framework for your area, driving governance and continuous improvement.
• Review and challenge month‑end close activities delivered by international finance teams.
• Act as the technical accounting lead, providing guidance on complex accounting matters.
• Own balance‑sheet reconciliations, movement analysis and reporting commentary for senior leadership.
• Manage external audit requirements, statutory reporting and audit queries.
• Identify and resolve accounting exceptions, implementing long‑term process improvements.
• Coach and develop junior finance colleagues, fostering a culture of accountability.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA).
• Big 4 training with a strong technical accounting foundation.
• Experience in a complex, listed, multi‑entity organisation.
• Background in a SOX‑controlled financial environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK GAAP and US GAAP (Irish GAAP beneficial).
• Proven ownership of significant balance‑sheet areas and complex accounting judgments.
• Ability to work effectively with shared‑service or offshore finance teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills.
