Financial Controller (Sustainable Retail)

About the role

This is a hands‑on, proactive Financial Controller position within a B Corp‑certified retailer that balances profit with planet. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will own day‑to‑day accounting operations and help shape a finance function that supports a fast‑paced, high‑volume business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a finance team of five, fostering accuracy and continuous improvement.
• Oversee the month‑end close process and produce timely, accurate management accounts.
• Maintain a robust internal control environment, manage the annual audit and ensure full statutory compliance.
• Handle cash‑flow, stock accounting, VAT reporting and fixed‑assets accounting in a high‑volume, low‑value transaction setting.
• Identify and implement system and workflow enhancements to streamline accounting operations.
• Provide clear financial insights to senior leadership, linking data to strategic commercial decisions.
• Collaborate with Finance Transformation and Data Innovation teams to improve finance systems, reporting automation and data quality.

Required profile

• 2–4 years post‑qualification experience (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Background in a product‑based business such as retail, FMCG or manufacturing, preferably in a high‑volume environment.
• Proven experience managing or mentoring finance team members.
• Strong commercial mindset and genuine interest in sustainability and ethical business practices.
