Fire Safety & DSEAR Assessor

About the role

Amentum is recruiting a Fire Safety & DSEAR Assessor for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) nuclear power station project, supporting the Commissioning programme (NNB GenCo). The role supports fire safety matters, promotes a positive fire safety culture and helps coordinate fire safety among the many contractors working on the project and at its associated development sites.

Key responsibilities

• Help establish and transition into operational fire safety governance arrangements and policies aligned with regulatory requirements, loss control objectives and business needs.
• Support the management of CommOps fire safety DSEAR arrangements, including DSEAR risk assessments and compliance with Client, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor standards.
• Support an operational readiness strategy and an implementation plan covering milestones up to completion of works (COD).
• Carry out Fire Hazard Analysis (FHA) and Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) with input from project subject matter experts.
• Support the Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness Management Systems and the Fire Safety Audit and Assurance.
• Contribute to the Commissioning fire safety strategy for commissioning, pre-operation and maintenance areas.
• Provide subject matter input to the Nuclear Skills Alliance training teams and maintain close working relationships with the HPC construction and wider EDF fire safety teams.
• After handover, assist in a combustible materials hazard identification programme and an information management strategy for fire protection documentation.
• Advise teams designing facilities and equipment from an operational station perspective and help build a strong fire safety culture.

Required profile

• Minimum Level 4 Fire Safety qualification with an approved professional body (e.g. Institute of Fire Engineers).
• Appropriate qualification such as H&S Diploma (NEBOSH) and accreditation to (or working towards) a Fire Risk Assessor register (IFSM, IFE, FRACS), including CompEx Foundation Plus.
• Previous experience overseeing Fire Safety Management Arrangements in an industrial or similar setting.
• Experience implementing DSEAR arrangements and coordinating DSEAR activities.
• Experience carrying out Fire Risk Assessments in commissioning and operating environments, and developing Fire Emergency Response Plans.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in large-scale complex construction or nuclear licence sites, and 2 years' experience in DSEAR hazards and management processes.

Required skills

• Detailed understanding of fire safety legislation (Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021, Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022) and codes of practice.
• Competence with Microsoft applications and an aptitude for learning new software.
• Clear verbal and written communication at all levels of the organisation.
