Fractional Finance Director (1 day per week)

About the role

This is a six‑month fixed‑term opportunity (with a view to permanent) for an experienced finance leader to work one day per week with a fast‑growing construction business. You will partner directly with the Managing Director and shareholders to shape strategy and improve commercial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a three‑year growth strategy.
• Improve profitability, margins and EBITDA.
• Strengthen forecasting, budgeting and business planning processes.
• Increase visibility of project and contract profitability.
• Enhance working capital management and cash generation.
• Deliver robust management information, KPI reporting and financial governance.
• Support strategic decision‑making at board level and drive shareholder value.
• Mentor and develop the existing finance team.
• Act as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director and shareholders.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
• Previous Finance Director or CFO experience.
• Strong background in the construction sector, supporting businesses with £10‑50 m turnover.
• Proven commercial finance and business‑partnering capability.
• Track record of improving profitability and cash generation.
• Experience in owner‑managed businesses and board‑level communication.
• Highly desirable: experience scaling a construction business, implementing project profitability reporting, banking/funding relationships, M&A exposure.
