Freedom of Information and Data Protection Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Freedom of Information and Data Protection Manager to lead FOIA, EIR and data protection activities within a busy public‑sector environment. The successful candidate will head a team of Disclosure Officers, ensuring timely, accurate and compliant responses to information requests while fostering a strong information‑rights culture.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Disclosure Officers handling FOIA, EIR and data protection enquiries.
• Manage the end‑to‑end request lifecycle, guaranteeing high‑quality responses within statutory deadlines.
• Conduct quality assurance checks, provide feedback and support on complex cases.
• Oversee records management and maintain SharePoint sites for documentation.
• Handle internal reviews, complaints, and correspondence with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
• Contribute to training programmes, audit activities and the organisation’s publication scheme.

Required profile

• Proven experience in Freedom of Information, Environmental Information Regulations and data protection within the public sector.
• Demonstrated line‑management experience.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and the ability to interpret and apply it.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
