Fuel Operator – Pipeline Technician (Inverness)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Fuel Operator / Pipeline Technician to join a leading fuel storage company in Inverness. The role starts on core hours and will transition to a 24‑hour shift pattern with on‑call duties.

Key responsibilities

• Set up pumping routes and safely receive, deliver, and transfer fuel products between sites.
• Operate in line with approved route cards and operational procedures.
• Act as an Approved Inspector of Fuel Quality, ensuring fuel and additive integrity.
• Manage stock control activities including tank dipping, temperature correction, batch records and month‑end accounting.
• Operate SCADA and ABB computerised systems.
• Maintain excellent housekeeping standards across plant, equipment and facilities.
• Support emergency preparedness and response, including standby and on‑call rotas.
• Liaise with SCADA control teams to ensure safe depot and pipeline operations.
• Issue Permits to Work and monitor contractor compliance.
• Carry out planned proof checks on equipment and support maintenance activities.
• Report defects, hazards, near misses and operational issues promptly.
• Monitor and maintain pipeline wayleaves, vegetation control and infrastructure.
• Conduct site visits and inspections for third‑party works.
• Compile operational reports such as infringements, line walks, aerial patrol findings and site inspections.

Required profile

• Experience in fuel handling, pipeline operations or other hazardous environments.
• Knowledge of COMAH and COSHH regulations.
• Ability to work shift patterns, including nights and on‑call duties.

Required skills

• SCADA system operation.
• ABB control system familiarity.
• Fuel quality inspection.
• Tank dipping and stock control procedures.

• Salary up to £37,640 plus shift allowance (£11,000) and on‑call rota fee.
