General Operative – Property Maintenance (North East England)

About the role

We are seeking a reliable General Operative to join our North East team, supporting the maintenance and refurbishment of both occupied and void housing properties. The role involves a variety of hands‑on tasks aimed at keeping homes safe, functional and presentable while delivering a high standard of customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out property inspections and check smoke alarms.
• Perform general repairs such as changing light bulbs, fitting blinds, re‑plumbing washing machines and fixing door handles.
• Apply silicone, adjust doors and undertake basic painting tasks.
• Support larger works on void properties, including painting and assisting tradespeople.
• Follow checklists to ensure compliance, quality and health‑and‑safety standards.
• Interact with landlords and tenants to provide property access and a positive experience.

Required profile

• Basic DIY ability with experience in plumbing, blind installation and door repairs.
• Previous painting experience.
• Strong customer‑service orientation and clear communication.
• Full UK driving licence, reliable transport and willingness to travel across the region.
• Own basic hand tools (spirit level, screwdrivers, hammer) and IT literacy.
