Group Director of Homes and Communities

About the role

Stonewater is looking for a Group Director of Homes and Communities to lead the delivery of high‑quality housing and community services across a portfolio of around 40,000 homes. Reporting to the COO and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team, the role shapes strategy, ensures compliance and drives resident‑focused outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead housing management, tenancy services, neighbourhood operations, commercial services, rent and service charge functions.
• Develop and implement strategies to strengthen resident engagement, community cohesion and place‑based service excellence.
• Ensure compliance with the Social Housing Regulator’s Consumer Standards and all relevant legislation.
• Champion inclusive, customer‑focused services and oversee safeguarding, domestic abuse and independent living provisions.
• Drive innovation, continuous improvement and operational performance across all service areas.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with local authorities, health partners, community organisations and regulators.
• Contribute to organisational strategy, transformation programmes and budget planning.
• Represent Stonewater externally and at Board level, including leadership of the Mount Green Board.

Required profile

• Significant senior leadership experience in housing, community development or a related sector.
• Deep knowledge of housing legislation, regulatory frameworks and sector best practice.
• Proven ability to think strategically while delivering operational results.
• Experience leading complex, multi‑disciplinary teams and services.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and partnership‑building capabilities.
• Strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Professional housing qualification (e.g., CIH) or equivalent experience.
