Head of Commercial Services

About the role

Flint Bishop is transforming from a regional law firm into a national legal business. The Head of Commercial Services will lead this change, reporting directly to the CEO and joining the senior leadership team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop all Commercial Services teams, including Commercial Litigation, Employment, Commercial Property, Corporate & Finance, Commercial Contracts, Licensing, Intellectual Property, Regulatory & Corporate Defence, Insurance Litigation, and Recoveries.
• Set and deliver a commercially focused divisional strategy aligned with the firm’s national growth plans.
• Collaborate with the CEO, COO, Head of Private Client Services, and the Management Board to operate as a single national business.
• Design and implement the optimal sub‑team and leadership structure for the division.
• Ensure clients receive clear, pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice and consistent service standards nationwide.
• Promote cross‑referral activity between Commercial Services, Private Client Services, and central operational functions.
• Own divisional financial performance, including profitability, budgeting, utilisation, pricing strategy, and sustainable revenue growth.
• Mentor and develop high‑performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Identify and implement operational and process improvements to support scalability and client experience.
• Maintain robust governance, compliance, quality assurance, and risk management standards.

• Proven ability to set and execute a commercial strategy at a senior level.
• Experience leading large, multidisciplinary legal teams.
• Strong track record of delivering divisional growth and improving profitability.
• Excellent collaboration skills with senior executives and cross‑functional partners.
• Demonstrated capability to design effective leadership structures and develop future leaders.
