Head of Communications

About the role

As Head of Communications you will shape Marie Curie’s external voice, positioning the charity as the leading authority on end‑of‑life care across the UK. You will work closely with senior leaders to align messaging with the organisation’s strategy and values, and you will lead a team of communications professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and manage the external communications strategy in line with organisational goals.
• Collaborate with directors and initiatives to ensure consistent and effective messaging.
• Lead crisis communications, creating response plans and key messages alongside the Director of Corporate and Strategic Communications and the Head of PR and Media.
• Guide, mentor and develop the communications team.
• Oversee major communication campaigns, including change and advocacy initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a senior communications role delivering organisation‑wide communication plans.
• Track record of leading large‑scale campaigns and change communications.
• Experience managing and developing a communications team.
• Ability to work across complex, multi‑departmental organisations.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership and project‑management capabilities.

Required skills

What we offer

• Salary between £58,500 and £65,000, dependent on experience.
• Full‑time permanent contract.
• Home‑based work with occasional travel to London.
