Head of Finance

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Head of Finance to lead the finance function of a fast‑growing technology SME that has scaled its turnover from £200k to £3m and aims to become a £100m business. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be the commercial finance partner for the leadership team, driving robust processes and strategic insight.

Key responsibilities

• Mentor and develop a junior finance team member.
• Implement and enhance finance systems and processes, currently based on Xero, to support rapid growth.
• Oversee day‑to‑day finance operations and produce accurate management accounts.
• Develop costing, forecasting and budgeting frameworks for development projects.
• Maintain Bill‑of‑Materials (BOM) costing schedules for production.
• Prepare and submit financial returns for grant claims and manage R&D tax credit applications.
• Provide financial input into customer contracts, pricing strategies and supplier negotiations.
• Act as a key business partner to the wider leadership team, contributing to strategic decisions.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Proven experience working in fast‑growing SMEs, preferably in technology or product‑focused environments.
• Strong commercial outlook with the ability to communicate financial insights to non‑financial stakeholders.
• Eligibility to work in the UK (British passport, settled status or valid work permit).

• Xero accounting software.
