Head of Finance – Not‑for‑Profit (London)

About the role

The Head of Finance will lead all financial activities for a well‑established not‑for‑profit organisation in London. This senior position combines strategic financial planning with hands‑on management to ensure the charity operates efficiently and complies with all regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the organisation's financial strategy, planning and management processes.
• Prepare and present detailed financial reports to the leadership team and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal policies and statutory requirements.
• Manage the budgeting cycle, including forecasting, monitoring performance and reporting variances.
• Lead, mentor and develop the finance team to achieve operational excellence.
• Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights that support decision‑making.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities and drive financial efficiency initiatives.
• Oversee the preparation of annual accounts and coordinate with external auditors.

Required profile

• Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Experience working in a charity with turnover under £10 million.
• Strong knowledge of financial planning, reporting and compliance within the not‑for‑profit sector.
• Proven financial leadership experience, preferably in a charitable environment.
• Ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate it clearly to stakeholders.
• Excellent management and leadership capabilities.
• Proactive problem‑solver with a commitment to the values of the not‑for‑profit sector.
