Head of Legislative Policy

About the role

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is seeking a Head of Legislative Policy to lead a high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary team. You will shape the ICO’s response to major government reforms, provide evidence‑based policy positions and trusted advice to government, and protect and strengthen the ICO’s remit.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the legislative policy team, in partnership with the Director, to provide expert insight across the ICO’s legislative framework.
• Develop and champion key policy positions on proposed legislative changes, assessing impact on people, businesses, government and the ICO.
• Identify emerging issues, analyse forward‑looking policy proposals and deliver significant policy responses.
• Engage with senior decision‑makers, influencers and stakeholders in the UK and internationally.
• Lead, develop and nurture a diverse, high‑performing workforce, fostering a culture of innovation and results.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams in a policy or legislative environment.
• Strong ability to influence, provide clarity and drive impact on complex legislative change.
• Deep understanding of the ICO’s regulatory context and data‑protection landscape.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
