Head of People & Culture (Hybrid, Bristol)

About the role

National Friendly Society is seeking a dynamic Head of People & Culture to lead its people agenda at a pivotal time of growth. Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Executive Team and Board, you will shape culture, develop leadership capability and drive workforce strategy across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver a comprehensive People & Culture strategy aligned with the Society’s purpose.
• Act as the principal adviser to the CEO and Executive Team on all people matters.
• Lead succession planning, workforce planning and talent development programmes.
• Drive employee engagement, wellbeing and culture initiatives.
• Support the Board and Remuneration Committee on organisational capability and people governance.
• Oversee HR and Facilities functions, ensuring high‑quality service delivery.

Required profile

• Significant senior HR leadership experience, preferably in a mutual or regulated environment.
• Proven ability to develop and implement organisation‑wide people strategies.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and governance.
• Track record of leading change, culture and organisational development programmes.
• Experience advising senior leadership teams and Boards.
• Ideally MCIPD or FCIPD status with CIPD Level 7 or equivalent.

Required skills

• Deep understanding of UK employment law.
• Expertise in succession and workforce planning.
• Capability to influence at Executive and Board level.
