Head of Procurement (Interim, 12 months)

About the role

An exciting interim opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Procurement to lead a growing construction organisation through a period of significant transformation. The role is based in Essex and operates on a hybrid model, with three days per week in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the procurement function during a 12‑month transformation programme.
• Manage and mentor a small, high‑performing procurement team.
• Design and implement procurement strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Oversee sourcing, supplier management, contract management and governance activities.
• Drive cost optimisation, supply‑chain resilience and commercial value across a diverse spend portfolio.
• Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and operational leaders.
• Embed best‑practice category management and procurement processes, systems and reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Head of Procurement, Procurement Director or senior procurement leader.
• Previous leadership experience within construction, infrastructure, property or related sectors.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and develop procurement teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and leadership skills.
• Strong commercial acumen with expertise in supplier negotiation and contract management.
