About the role
The Health and Safety Advisor will support Brighton College by coordinating, facilitating and promoting health and safety across the campus estate. The role involves conducting inspections, delivering training and ensuring compliance with legislation to maintain a safe environment for students, staff and visitors.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out internal and external property inspections, including fire safety checks and fire risk assessments.
- Assist with traffic and pedestrian safety management around the estate, liaising with residents and community stakeholders.
- Coordinate contractors, schedule maintenance work and chaperone non‑DBS‑registered personnel on site.
- Provide administrative support such as minute taking, document handling and email correspondence.
- Manage DSE assessments, health and safety e‑learning database (iHASCO) and training matrix.
- Compile, interpret and present termly accident reports and support the annual risk‑assessment and policy review cycles.
- Oversee CoSHH administration and explore software solutions to improve the process.
- Provide advisory level health and safety guidance to department heads and staff, ensuring policies reflect current legislation.
- Procure and monitor health and safety equipment, maintain signage and keep comprehensive records.
Required profile
- Experience in health and safety within an educational or similar large‑site environment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple inspections and training programmes.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with staff, contractors and external stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and ability to produce clear reports and risk assessments.
Required skills
- Risk assessment and fire safety inspection competence.
- Familiarity with DSE assessments and CoSHH procedures.
- Experience using iHASCO or similar e‑learning health and safety platforms.
