Health and Safety Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join a leading FMCG food manufacturing company. The role will drive compliance, safety culture and environmental sustainability across multiple sites.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations including PUWER, Working at Height, Confined Space, Legionella, DSEAR, Fire Safety and Manual Handling.
• Act as primary contact for regulatory bodies such as HSE and the Fire Authority.
• Lead company and site H&S meetings and manage action completion.
• Own and maintain the risk‑assessment programme.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near‑misses, implement corrective actions and coordinate RIDDOR reporting.
• Manage insurance compliance, including Written Schemes, and conduct safety management system audits.
• Support HR with health surveillance, manage occupational health clinics and assist with health capability assessments.
• Monitor energy usage, coordinate reduction programmes and maintain statutory and corporate environmental reporting.

Required profile

• Manufacturing background in FMCG or a similar industry.
• 5+ years in a senior safety management role with SHE responsibilities.
• NEBOSH Diploma and professional body membership (IOSH/IEMA preferred), ideally chartered.
• Strong knowledge of key safety legislation and industrial hazards.
• Experience developing ISO45001 and ISO14001 management systems.
• Proven ability to work with external authorities (HSE, EHO) and to train/mentor staff.
