About the role
We are seeking a proactive Health & Safety Officer to lead HSE activities at our aerospace manufacturing site in Basildon. The role is pivotal in ensuring compliance, fostering a safety‑first culture and driving continuous improvement across the facility.
Key responsibilities
- Lead all Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the Basildon site.
- Promote a positive safety culture with a focus on zero harm.
- Ensure compliance with UK health & safety legislation, environmental regulations and company policies.
- Develop, implement and maintain HSE management systems, policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits and workplace assessments, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
- Lead accident, incident and near‑miss investigations and produce reports with recommendations.
- Carry out and support risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work.
- Advise managers and employees on best practice, legislative requirements and safe working methods.
- Chair Health & Safety Committee meetings and provide regular HSE performance reports.
- Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and training programmes.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness, fire safety arrangements and drills.
- Manage PPE requirements and ensure appropriate controls are maintained.
- Coordinate occupational health surveillance programmes with external providers.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, insurers and external contractors on HSE matters.
- Support ISO management systems and continuous improvement initiatives, monitoring environmental performance and compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Required profile
- Proven experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing, engineering or aerospace.
- Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, COSHH assessments and accident investigations.
- Ability to develop and maintain HSE management systems and policies.
- Excellent communication skills to advise staff and liaise with external bodies.
